Forza Horizon 3 – Coming to PC!

In Games, Upcoming by Branton7 Comments

Since the first Forza Motorsport released on the original Xbox way back in May of 2005, I’ve been hooked and it’s been the one game to keep me buying Xbox consoles – FH2 is actually the only game I play on my Xbone. But, thanks to Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere program, Forza Horizon is finally coming to PC on September 26th in all its open-world glory with its third installment!

Not too long ago we saw the Forza Motorsport 6: Apex beta hit the Windows store with it’s rather beefy recommended settings calling for an i7 3820, a GTX 970, and 12GB of RAM. Forza Horizon 3 is following suit with its own set of beefed up recommended requirements stating that you’ll need an i7 3820, a GTX 1060 / RX 480, and 12GB of RAM once again. But on the low end, you can squeeze by with an i5 4460, a GTX 760 / R7 260X, and 8GB of RAM – quite the gap between the recommended and min requirements! That said, I’d suggest aiming for a GTX 1070 / i5 6600k / 16GB of RAM like you’ll find in my $1000 gaming PC build if you want to completely experience FH3!

I don’t know a lot about how FH3 will perform, or how the gameplay will compare to Xbox One yet, but what I am certain of is that Forza Horizon 3 is going to kick ass on PC regardless! I have no doubt that there’s a lot of us out there who basically own an Xbox One to play FH2, but now it’s time to experience it with better graphics and potentially smoother performance. It’s also time to use that Xbox One console the way it was meant to be used, as something heavy to keep your papers from flying away – aka a paper weight!

Once FH3 drops on September 26th I’ll definitely be able to get more info out regarding if it’s worth the buy, or not. As things stand right now, I’m super amped that FH is coming to PC and I hope you are too! If you are, or even if you aren’t, let me know why / why not in the comment section!

The first game I ever played on PC was Ultima Online way back in 1999, since then I've been hooked on PC gaming and putting together awesome builds! Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Hey Dev,

Honestly, that’s pretty accurate but it really depends on the settings. FH3 is also veeeery CPU intensive, so you basically need an i7 as well..

That said, I broke down and bought the Ultimate Edition shortly after writing this post so I’ve had some time to poke around at FH3 with a couple of different GPUs… One of the cards I tested was an old 2GB GTX 760 (min requirement for FH3) and it was surprisingly able to maintain 30fps on the medium preset (running with an i7 4790k & 16gb DDR3).

  1. Hey Branton,

How well would your $1,200 build run FH3? From what you’ve said about it so far, it seems that the processor being an i5 6600K would be the only drawback.

    1. Hey Preston,

Since my $1200 build is running the strongest i5 currently available, it won’t take as big of a performance hit as a build with a lower tier i5 would. You can expect similar, but slightly better performance than you see in this benchmark vid 🙂 The only changes from his settings I would suggest would be locking FPS to 60 / turning Vsync on (FH3 really needs it or you get weird performance issues – slows down like the Matrix lol), then turning MSAA down to x2 and dynamic geometry to high – those settings should get you a smooth 60fps on my $1200 build w/o changing the processor 🙂

      I hope that helps!

  2. Hey branton sorry for asking such noob questions all time but can you suggest me some PC games that I can play on my laptop in medium settings?my laptop specs are-intel core i3-4005U 1.7ghz,4gb of ram, intel hd4400 and screen resolution of 1366*768? Thanks in advance
