7 Best FreeSync Monitor Reviews | 2024 Lineup for Amazing Gaming Experience

One of the most overlooked features of a gaming monitor is having the ability to sync your in-game framerate with your monitor’s refresh rate. Many people don’t know that the two are related at all and aren’t benefitting from the increased visual clarity and smoothness that comes with having them synced up. Don’t let yourself be one of those people, make sure you are getting the most out of your equipment with the best freesync monitor you can find, or in this case, that I can find! If you aren’t concerned about FreeSync then you may be interested in our top 1440p gaming monitors.

What to look for in a FreeSync Monitor

FreeSync only affects the refresh rate of your monitor in relation to the framerate of the games you play. It is essentially just a bonus feature. This means that nothing changes as far as what you are looking for in a monitor. All of the things you would usually look for, like refresh rate, response time, and resolution still apply and should still be your main focus. That said, if you can find something with the perfect specs and FreeSync compatibility then you are doing even better than you otherwise would have.

What are the Advantages of Freesync Monitors?

After all this talk of freesync, you might be wondering, “what is freesync?” FreeSync monitors can sync your monitor’s refresh rate to the framerate of the game you are playing. This means that there won’t be any strange visual artifacts while you are playing and it should increase the overall smoothness of the animation and camera movement. This is due to the way that refresh rate and framerate work.

You might notice that FreeSync is always mentioned in relation to AMD GPUs, but does freesync work with nvidia? Well, no, it doesn’t usually. Nvidia has its own syncing technology called G-Sync that does the same thing FreeSync does, just for their GPUs instead of AMD’s. You can find FreeSync monitors without breaking the bank. You can find your best gaming monitor for under 400 bucks.

Both of them are essentially the same thing, just in relation to different things. They are a measurement of how many times an image is refreshed on-screen in one second. Framerate is related to your Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) and refresh rate is related to your monitor.

If the two specifications are synced together, then they should both be displaying and refreshing images at the same time, which means there shouldn’t be any disparity between what images they are showing and thus there shouldn’t be any weird stuttering effects or tearing in the animations.

1. Acer XFA240

Editor’s Rating: 4.4/5

  • Not only does this monitor support FreeSync, but it also has compatibility with G-Sync, Nvidia’s equivalent syncing technology so you can use the syncing feature even if you are using an Nvidia GPU instead of an AMD one.

  • It comes with support for Acer VisionCare technology that lower blue light coming from your display and reduces flickering to keep your eyes performing at their best for longer amounts of time.

  • The stand is extremely ergonomic and allows the monitor to be positioned any way you like to get the most comfortable view no matter what your setup is like.

  • The screen is capable of pivoting ninety degrees so that you can use it in the traditional landscape mode or switch to portrait mode when browsing the web or reading a text document.

  • It is compatible with VESA standard mounts so you can use a few of these together in a multi-display stand or mount it on your wall to save space on your desk.

Acer’s XFA240 is an ideal gaming monitor. It has extremely high specs while also having support for FreeSync. If that weren’t enough to convince you, it is also compatible with G-Sync which I find especially exciting.

You rarely see support for G-Sync in anything other than extremely expensive gaming monitors, but it is even more rare to find a monitor that has support for both G-Sync and FreeSync which is surprising because there is virtually no difference when considering freesync vs g sync except for that they apply to different types of GPUs.

On top of the excellent gaming features and specs that this monitor has, it also comes with many ergonomic features and integrated eye health protection. You cannot go wrong with this monitor in your setup if you are a gaming enthusiast.

Pros

  • Excellent Gaming Specs

DisplayPort, HDMI, VGA

The VX2257-MHD from ViewSonic is an excellent choice for console gaming on a budget if you want an amd freesync monitor. It comes with a higher refresh rate than most consoles require and a pretty quick response time of 2 milliseconds. It also comes with a lot of eye care integration for reducing blue light and flickering. Part of the monitor’s visual settings is the ability to alter dark colors on the screen for more clarity as well as some optimization features that are specifically intended for gaming.

I especially appreciated the black stabilization feature as it allowed me to see well in dark areas of the game without having to stop and adjust my brightness settings manually.

All of these features combine to make for a very good gaming monitor for console gamers and it shouldn’t have any trouble with gaming on the PC either, it just won’t be as good as a monitor that is specialized for PC gaming.

Pros

  • Excellent Console Gaming Specs
  • Integrated Eye Protection
  • Flexible Connectivity Ports

Cons

  • Doesn’t have the best specs for PC gaming

  • The Game Mode feature can be used to optimize the visual settings specifically for gaming.

  • This monitor is especially energy-efficient and eco-friendly.

  • You can activate Eye Saver Mode to help keep your eyes safe from damaging blue light and reduce flickering so your eyes don’t strain as hard for visual clarity.

  • This monitor was designed specifically to increase immersion and eliminate distractions which is why it uses a curved panel to wrap around your viewpoint.

The Samsung C27F398 is a decent choice for console gaming if you are interested in trying out a curved monitor. It has an ideal refresh rate for console gaming and a decent response time to back it up while also implementing plenty of visual quality and clarity features to ensure you are getting the best picture quality you can.

The one major downside I noticed with this monitor is that the entire outside edge where the screen connects to the frame the image quality drops drastically and there is this faded line all around the screen’s border. I didn’t find it too distracting in the heat of the moment, but in times of less action, it definitely annoyed me.

Pros

  • Implements Several Visual Features
  • Has Integrated Eye Protection
  • Increases Immersion with Curved Panel

Cons

  • Might suffer from backlight bleeding around the edges

4. Asus VG245H

  • The VG245H comes with the GamePlus Mode feature which allows for several different bonus functions like an FPS counter and crosshair overlay while also optimizing visual settings specifically for different gaming genres.

  • This monitor has reduced blue light emissions which means your eyes are shielded from damage that can be caused by blue light over time.

  • It uses flicker-free technology so your eyes should strain less and be able to perform at top-quality for longer before you’ll need a break.

  • The screen is treated with anti-glare coating so that your vision isn’t blocked by light reflections and you can remain focused on the on-screen action at all times.

  • There is a Kensington Security Lock slot on the bottom of the monitor so that you can lock it to your desk and prevent easy thievery, giving you more time to take care of the problem before a malicious individual can run off with your equipment.

D-Sub, HDMI

The VG245H from Asus is a fantastic gaming monitor for console players. It has a 75 Hz refresh rate which is a good bit higher than most consoles demand and an extremely rapid response time of 1 millisecond. You will certainly appreciate the eye protection options it has available to it for reducing blue light and flickering. It also comes with a protective coating that the screen has been treated with to prevent glare that might be caused by light pollution in your gaming area.

I really appreciate the anti-glare coating because I don’t have blackout curtains for my office which means a lot of natural light gets in and has caused glare issues in the past.

Pros

  • Includes Safety Features
  • Comes with Presets for Gaming
  • Has Glare Protection

Cons

  • Few connectivity options

DisplayPort, HDMI

Sceptre’s C275B-144MN is a good choice for gaming. It has great specs all around, the only thing holding it back is the response time. A 3 millisecond response time isn’t bad by any means and should be acceptable for most gamers, but there are other options available that mean you don’t have to settle for that when you could have a 1 millisecond response time instead.

Other than the response time, all of the other specs are fantastic and it does come with plenty of quality of life features that make it more enticing.

Pros

  • Has Eye Shielding Technology
  • Optimized Presets for Gaming
  • Very Energy Efficient

Cons

  • Response time could be faster

Dell’s S2719DGF just might be the best freesync monitor on this list. It has the highest specs overall and it comes with several very valuable features that make it very convenient and a fantastic choice for gamers of any persuasion.

The only thing that might keep you from picking this monitor is that it is very expensive. That said, if you’ve got the cash then there is no better choice for your gaming needs on this list.

Pros

  • Has Several Convenience Features
  • Excellent Gaming Specs
  • Good Connectivity Options

Cons

  • The increased features increase the cost of the monitor

7. LG 34UC79G-B

  • You can experience increased immersion and focus while using this monitor due to its curved panel design.

  • Game Mode is available for use in optimizing the visual quality of your monitor specifically regarding gaming.

  • Activate the crosshair feature to enable a crosshair overlay on-screen to help with your accuracy in-game.

  • There is a motion blur reduction feature available so you can remove the blur that comes when graphics are moving on your screen.

  • Use the USB quick charging slot to charge your phone or tablet while you play.

Features Curved, Gaming Mode, Crosshair Feature, Motion Blur Reduction, USB Quick Charge

Ports / Connectivity

DisplayPort, HDMI

The 34UC79G-B from LG would be a fantastic gaming monitor if not for the strange problems it has with its response time. The monitor natively supports a response time of 5 milliseconds, but if you turn on the FreeSync compatibility that response time skyrockets up to 14 milliseconds. A 14 millisecond response time is completely unacceptable for a gaming monitor, which means you are forced to choose between a good response time or having FreeSync enabled.

Since the response time is more important than the FreeSync, you might as well consider this monitor to not have it at all.

Pros

  • Good Gaming Convenience Features
  • Excellent Resolution and Refresh Rate

Cons

  • Response time is very high when using FreeSync

Conclusion:

What is VRR?

The acronym VRR stands for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and it simply means that a monitor’s refresh rate can change at will, it isn’t locked to a specific refresh rate. Any monitor that has FreeSync compatibility will also have VRR. Usually, the VRR of a monitor that supports different refresh rates will be bound by a certain range. For instance, you might find a VRR capable monitor that can handle refresh rates between 60 Hz and 240 Hz.

FreeSync Performance & Resolution

Finding a FreeSync monitor should have no effect on the specs or resolution you are looking for. Those factors are determined by what you are using your monitor for above all else. If you are a serious gamer then you are most likely looking for a monitor with a refresh rate of 144 Hz, a response time faster than 5 milliseconds, and a resolution of 1080p or higher with an aspect ratio of 16:9 preferably.

Whether or not the monitor you find has those specs shouldn’t be affected by whether it is FreeSync capable or not. FreeSync support is a bonus feature that will be there or it won’t.

The Size & Design

Whether or not a monitor will have FreeSync support is completely independent of its size or the design choices made when creating it. If it is marketed as a gaming monitor then it is more likely to have FreeSync support, but that won’t always be the case. That is the only way the design might affect whether a monitor can support FreeSync technology.
