Bethesda recently released this new chunk of video showcasing more of the crafting system in Fallout 4 with game director Todd Howard. The world of Fallout is a crazy place, and in FO4 you’re going to have to scavenge everything you can to build what you’ll need to cause adequate destruction. No longer will you be avoiding all of the junk laying around the Fallout universe, but instead, you’ll be hoarding the f*** out of it.
I think back to Skyrim mods that gave you your own town to control, etc, and it gets me really excited to give Bethesda’s version of “base-building” a spin, while defending it from wasteland raiders in a post-apocalyptic Boston. The base building part of the crafting system looks super fun, and I really like the idea of having to wire everything into your power source(s). I just hope that this feature isn’t over-hyped..
The weapon crafting looks fricking awesome, and I think it’s going to be fun experimenting with all of the different weapon classes. Turning pistols into rifles or weapons of greater destruction is an idea that is really appealing to me, and watching it in action makes it that much better. Just think of what will be released when user-generated content launches on PC? The mods for FO3 and New Vegas were absolutely amazing, and now that modders have a larger palette to work with… The possibilities are basically endless.
Building my own power armor? Yes, please! This is something I really wanted in past FO games, and now that they’ve finally done it I can’t f***ing wait! I’m hoping that there will be deeper levels of customization into colors and stuff like that, but as it stands, just building power armor sounds badass.
At the end of the day, Fallout 4 is absolutely packed full of ways to customize your wanderer, and you’re really only limited to your own imagination – to an extent. I’m not usually one to pre-order games, but I definitely pre-ordered FO4 a couple of months ago. Why? Because I have full faith in Bethesda to launch an amazing game this November 10th.
What are your thoughts? Do you think FO4 is going to live up to the hype? Or is the hype-train going to derail shortly after launch? Let us know in the comments!
