According to this tweet from 2K United Kingdom, Mafia III has officially been announced, and even has an official reveal date during Gamescon in August. Not a lot has been said about Mafia III, but the following image, which was released as part of the announcement tweet, gives us somewhat of a timeline.
We can see cars from the 1960s era, and the silhouettes of 4 figures. Ok, so maybe not a lot is given away in the picture aside from the possibility of things taking place in the 60s, and the worldwide reveal being on August 5th.
2K had this to say in a recent statement, “Mafia III is the next installment in the popular series known for immersing players into a world of organized crime through rich narrative storytelling and a beautifully crafted game world featuring period-accurate cars, music, and fashion,”.
I guess we will have to head to Gamescon, or catch a livestream at ..5AM PDT / 8AM EDT on August 5th to find out anything more, but for now Mafia III has my attention.
We can only hope that Mafia III will be released some time in 2016, without any more delays or hiccups, and that it will come to PC, as well as the next-gen consoles. Nothing has been confirmed in this regard yet, so all we have is speculation at this point.
For now, if you haven’t played Mafia II in a while and you don’t currently own it, Steam is offering it on-sale for 80% off, coming up somewhere around $8! I’m sure the sale will only last a few days, and the price will jump back up to $40 for the Deluxe Edition, but then you can just grab a Steam key from G2A for about $10-$12.
For now, here’s the trailer from Mafia II, to hold you over until August 5th.
What are you hoping to get out of Mafia III? More customization? A longer story-line than the relatively short experience we got from Mafia II? Let us know in the comments!
