no man's sky beyond release date

No Man’s Sky is a game that just keeps getting better and better. Not only that, but every single update has been completely free, including the long-awaited Beyond. This feature-packed update will be releasing across all platforms on August 14th.

Beyond is comprised of what Hello Games have called “three major updates rolled into one larger free release.” However, we’ve only heard about 2/3 so far.

One is the addition of VR support for all platforms, a huge change on its own. NMS: VR won’t be any different from the non-VR variant outside of the obvious – everything you can do in the base game, you can do in VR. Even better, VR and non-VR players will be able to play together without an issue. You’ll be able to “grab the joystick and thruster to fly your starship over an unexplored alien planet”, and “reach into your backpack to grab your multitool” so you can “carve out intricate shapes with unprecedented control”.

The other will be an expanded Online experience (called No Man’s Sky Online) which aims to “bring a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together.” Hello Games mentioned that NMS: Online “brings people together like never before, and has many recognisable online elements” but they do not “consider No Man’s Sky to be an MMO”. Their news release goes on to say that NMS: Online “won’t require a subscription, won’t contain microtransactions, and will be free for all existing players.”

What the third major update will be, is still unknown. A lot of speculation about some form of ship customization has been flying around, but there’s nothing official yet. Since Beyond is less than 2-weeks away, it’s not long until we know (for sure) what that third major update is.

One thing is for certain, every update No Man’s Sky receives improves the game significantly. The Next update from last year was enough to push NMS into Steam’s top 10, if not just for a while. Beyond will likely do something similar, only, I think it’ll be even bigger this time around.
