This review is for the 49 inch LG 49WL95C-W. You can read the tech specs everywhere but this a review for the person working from home and wanting to know in plain English if this is a great monitor. Answer: YES!!
Easy setup: This monitor is absolutely perfect for Macbook Pro users like myself. The monitor came with a USB-C cable (among many other cable types). Out of the box, connecting the stand and mounting the monitor to it was a breeze. Then it's literally two cables: one to power the monitor into the wall and then the USB-C to connect the laptop. (The monitor will charge your laptop). After reading that some users were having issues with the screen flickering/blacking out while I was researching, I was sure to immediately go to the LG support page to download any firmware updates. I've had this for a week now and I haven't had a single issue. Don't let any negative reviews deter you. The final step was to adjust the display resolution under system preferences on my laptop, then everything looked even better than I was expecting. The monitor itself gives you some settings for further customization, but I spent a minimal amount of time messing with that. It's just a small push knob on the back panel towards the right side.. very easy to use. The whole process from opening the box to being completely up and running was just a few minutes and I found it to be easy and I think most others would too.
High-Quality Screen Resolution: To me, the 5120 x 1440 screen resolution gives a very similar picture quality to my laptop's display. It's obviously unrealistic to have it look better than the laptop considering there's MUCH more real estate to work with, but I'm VERY pleased with the quality. I can watch 4k videos on YouTube and I think it looks fantastic. Text is also crisp. The resolution just everything 99% of people will ever need for work, browsing the web, or any common productivity tasks. To organize your windows, LG's OnScreen Control (that you can download from LG's website) allows you to split the screen in a variety of ways. I like using the 3 screen split, but you can split it up to 8 screens. I know people are talking about 3rd party software for more screen splitting customization, but I haven't tried that. I like splitting the screen vertically into thirds. This way, each of the 3 screens is a little bigger than the size of my 15 inch laptop screen, and I have 3 windows side by side, all looking incredible. It's easy to switch between layouts and move windows around. It just solves so many annoying problems that I used to have with tiling windows behind each other. No more!
Sound: The monitor itself has speakers as well as a port for your headphones. Audiophiles probably wouldn't be salivating over it, but I think it sounds decent. I would still give the edge to my 2018 Macbook Pro speakers, but I just use headphones most of the time anyway. Just buy separate speakers if top-quality sound is super important to you.
Conclusion: I bought this monitor because I'm working from home as a software developer and I need to multi-task with several programs visible at the same time. This is absolutely everything I was hoping for and more! The screen is large and wide, but not obnoxiously so. The quality is excellent and I have no issues. Zero dead pixels, no flicker or black out issues. Working from home is now so much more convenient and enjoyable, that's really the bottom line. I can imagine this would be the perfect monitor for stock traders as well who are looking to analyze several charts simultaneously. I'm not a gamer, so I can't speak to that at all regarding refresh rates, but for work or regular internet use, 60Hz is definitely all you need. If you can afford it, go for it!! This monitor is quality and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. My girlfriend jokes that I won't spend time with her in the evenings as much anymore because of this thing. Haha, she's not entirely wrong.
(...not sure why LG 38” display reviews are mixed in here)...
The ultrawide view along with a beautiful, crisp, clear resolution (5120x1440), was the primary reason for my purchase. It arrived in solid packaging and set-up was quick and simple. Granted it's not a true 5k, but that's not the target market. If this display had the same resolution as the 34" LG 34WK95U-W (5120 x 2160), that would be a dream come true!
[I actually considered purchasing that (34") display last year, but it was not as wide as this one, so in the meantime (while I waited for the 49" display to launch) I went with the 38" LG38WK95C-W ultra-wide (3840x1600)].
I am a web developer and I appreciate the extra real estate this display provides for multitasking. I'm connected with ONE USB-C (TB3) cable (which in itself is awesome!) via CalDigit TS3+, and a 2018 15" MacBook Pro (w 32 GB RAM / Radeon Pro 560x running the latest version of Mojave, 10.14.4 as of today). That said, I think the minor flickering issue I'm experiencing below is an (Apple) OSX related "scaling" issue, not LG (I'm also running the latest LG firmware).
Minor concerns:
-This display (LG 49WL95C-W) will periodically "blackout," and go dark (which only lasts for about a second, until I press a key or move my mouse). As others have stated, this happens several times throughout the day for no apparent reason.
-My only other concern is that I still occasionally have to go through the configuration process (System Preferences / Displays / then hold down the "option" key when selecting "Scaled," and then choosing "5120x1440 (low resolution)" from the drop-down menu, for it to scale properly. It seems to scale (to its native resolution) correctly most of the time (but this really should not be an issue).
If I disconnect and reconnect my MacBook Pro (via the one USB-C cable), it will usually display the native resolution and other times it won't. This same issue happens when I reboot and I'm connected to this display. After testing it, this still happens with other (high quality) USB-C cables, so I don't think it's the cable.
My LG 38" ultra-wide never did this when connected to my MB Pro. Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this. I see several Mac owners are. If I'm missing something, please let me know how to resolve this.
I also posted a review on the LG site. I'm also not having any "wobble" issues as I see others are experiencing. I'm using a Sequel Lift (6052) Lift Desk and it's very solid and sturdy. I would normally put this on a VESA compliant mount, but this beast is too big (~27 lbs w/o the stand). If you are considering a display that will allow you to create more content or view more information on one screen, I recommend this display.
~Please forgive the novel length rant~
I'm hoping this will help other Mac users to receive a quick Mojave update. I already submitted a request to Apple.
Note: This thing is pretty huge when you actually see it in person (the photo's really don't do it justice).
TL;DR
I'm really glad I ordered it! This is a beautiful, crisp, ultra-wide display (if it was any wider my neck would crack)! (Hopefully, Apple will quickly produce an OSX update to address the minor (handshake) scaling issues, as they fortunately did when the LG 34WK95U-W was first launched).
Update 4:30/19:
The latest LG OnScreen Control software update seems to have taken care of the random blackouts.

Top reviews from other countries
I play a lot of racing sims, which are incredible with this screen but I also work in the CGI industry and this monitor was fantastic for my Work From Home setup. The colour is very good, I felt I didn't have to adapt from switching from my work monitor which is a production-grade colour monitor.
At 5120×1440, my once cluttered desktop is now packed into a tiny corner on the left. I am currently working on high resolution stills and I can pack them in at their near full resolution to do comparisons. Sometimes I am working with 3 different software at the same time, plus browsers for organization. So far this has been superior to dual monitor workflow once you get used to it.
The curve on this monitor is subtle, it is less designed for surrounding you and more so does a good job at preventing glancing angle glare, and almost flattening the perspective. Had this been a flat monitor, things on the edges of the screen would just be awkward.
For games, this is both amazing but with some interesting flaws depending on what you play:
-Racing and Flight sims are an absolute dream, I use trackIR which works even better with this as you are not moving your eyes awkwardly as much to keep them centre screen. Mirrors in cars are always visible instead of having to turn your head. Keeping track of cars on both sides of you in a 3-wide situation has never been easier.
-First person games have some issues, this comes down to how a game renders the camera. Your edges are drastically skewed, but when you are focusing on the centre of the screen, it actually works very well with your peripheral vision. I don't play many first person games, however so I dont have a full review for that.
-Orthographic Strategy games: if the game supports this resolution and aspect ratio, you basically have a god-level of observation. However, UI elements may be off to the left or right, and if you are not able to scale or drag windows off the left or right of the screen, you will find yourself leaning over a lot to read things. At the same time, strategy games that tend to be cluttered with lots of windows are much cleaner in the main space of your screen. I've been playing stellaris on this monitor and once I got used to where things are off to the side, I don't think I could go back a regular monitor.
Overall I love this monitor, it is absolutely beautiful and a worthy investment. It is shockingly large and gets quite a bit of attention when guests come over. Pixel density is super clean, mounting system is sturdy, height adjustment has a good range. The matte finish is much better than my previous shiny curved monitor which had projected weird holograms of my reflection. Due to the matte finish, glare is much less of a problem, expect the normal kind of glare you would get if the sun was shining into your room mid-day but much less so than shiny monitors.
Assembly was easy. Take note that you must use display ports instead of HDMI if you want the full 5120×1440.
Speakers are a welcome addition, they aren't the best but useful if you are on a headphones only setup as I was, and would like to just throw on youtube with a friend.
Streamers take note: This monitor is great for gaming, however you will need to trim the edges off your capture so that it fits the standards of a 16:9 stream. Most of your viewers likely do not enjoy watching 32:9 video on their standard monitor. I have been doing this fine, however some games will lose the UI on the sides. For racing it just looks like a normal game res for viewers while you personally see about a foot extra on both sides of the monitor.
I don't consider this a flaw, but take this into account when looking into Ultrawide monitors if you stream your games.
For work, I have 6 different apps all visible at the same time, sure I could do it with 2 monitors (I did it before) but this is just a little bit more room due to 1440 resolution (Compared to 1080) and again...no bezel. I haven't gotten one yet, but I recommend a mount to put the monitor on the wall behind the desk to eliminate the stand, it's a nice stand but would be nice not to use up the space on the desk.
Don't count on the supplied LG software to give you a good experience though, it's terrible. For separating the monitor in sections (invisible on screen) and snap to them, I found an inexpensive app called MaxTo that works way better than the LG software for same. Depending on the task, I split my workspace in 2 or 3 columns (mostly 3) and it enables me to keep 2 browser windows visible and my code editor or other work app I need open at once. That really boosted my workflow.
The color accuracy, brightness and clarity of the monitor are fantastic.
The only drawback really is the price. But it's a great piece of gear that will improve your workflow if you have a need for it. It beats my previous 2 monitors setup for sure.
I'm not a gamer so I didn't test it in that context.
THIS THING is massive, be warned! The image and finish is just sublime (watch out its fragile however, you can scratch the base easily). Love the adjustment too for height, pivot and tilt its very fluid. Since I have had it I just can't wait to go to my office and this screen daily, it's made my work so enjoyable. Colour is very accurate, sound is ok but prefer my set of speakers to it, but decent if you don't have any.
Biggest problem with a screen like is that you've been spoiled for life, you can never go back!

Second, my monitor came with smudges all over the screen and more to the point, a broken USB Hub. Plugging in USB 3.0 underneath the monitor worked fine in one port, but not another. Anything requiring even a little bit of power, like a DVD Rom, would not work, nor would external microphones. Even something as simple as a USB microphone would cut in and out. The powered hard drive I got would plug in and disconnect itself dangerously, and without warning. The right side port simply did not work at all, with anything, for more than a few seconds.
When I tried to find out if this was a possible firmware issue (the software I installed from LG said my USB-C cable was not plugged in when it was and I could see a picture) I could not download any updates. When I called LG, the person I spoke to barely spoke English. She did not understand what item I was calling about, let alone what was wrong. She asked me if the 'hard drive in the monitor' was working.
IF you don't understand why that's stupid, you should not be looking at any monitor this expensive. She did say she would take my number and try to find someone more knowledgable, but never called back. It's been two weeks. I emailed LG and got a response asking for information to schedule a service appointment. Keeping in mind this is a 2 day old monitor, so it should be an exchange, not a service situation. But I still want to see if LG can tell me about the issues I'm experiencing and what's causing them, if there's an easy fix.
The reply email is 'Do not reply' and they do not include any reply email or information to send back the information they requested. No link, nothing. So LG customer service is among the worst for electronics I've ever experienced in my life. And that's saying a LOT.
Finally, I spent 3 hours with Amazon trying to process an exchange. They said the replacement monitor would take several months to deliver, even though the monitor is in stock for next day delivery online. I can't return and buy again, because the price is a lot higher now.
Suffice to say, this monitor is a LEMON. Every other person on here is reviewing it low for one reason or another, and I'm telling you, for no other reason than I value your time, do NOT waist yours on this beast. Sure it looks nice, but it's probably too wide, cuts too many corners and even if the USB Hub functions it'l stop functioning soon enough. And if you're on a Mac, it's even worse.
The software is also buggy. So much so it's useless with the new Catalina. That matters because with a supersede aspect ratio you need to Swipe in full screen from one pane to another and it'll force you back. 'Command + Tab' gives you the same result.
