Squadron 42, Roberts Space Industries’ single-player dive into the Star Citizen universe finally had some new gameplay footage released to close out 2017. It’s laggy at points, but overall very promising and includes tons of commentary by Chris Roberts.

Lt. Cdr. Steve ‘Old Man’ Colton (Mark Hamill)

If you’re not quite sure what Squadron 42 is, let’s quickly cover that first. Basically put, SQ42 is the story-based single-player version of Star Citizen. It’s fully voiced by over 350 actors, some of which are relatively famous and you will definitely know who they are.

Throughout SQ42 you’ll run into characters voiced by actors like Gillian Anderson (Scully in X-Files), Andy Serkis (Gollum in LoTR | Snoke in Star Wars 7/8), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Gary Oldman (Commissioner Gordon in The Dark Knight, etc), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth in Game of Thrones), and John Rhys-Davies (Gimli in LoTR) just to name a few. That’s one star-studded cast when it comes to pretty much anything, let alone a single-player sci-fi video game.

From the very beginning, it’s easy to tell that there’s been very little editing done to this footage and it actually takes place in-game opposed to a cinematic or pre-scripted area like lots of other devs do. The gameplay footage starts out with the player waking up on a gargantuan capital-class ship (The Idris) and going for a short stroll around it. From there, the gameplay footage goes through a small mission including some EVA, some FPS fighting, some lag, and some cinematics.

Oh, and what you might be most interested in, Star Citizen 3.0 will release tomorrow. Yep, that’s right, December 24th SC 3.0 will release.

What do you think? Hyped on Squadron 42? Or nah? Let me know in the comments!
