What do you get when you take giants spiders, catapult propelled goblins, griffins, magic, orcs and humans, and put it all into a Total War game? You get Total War: Warhammer. But, can we really be hyped about the release of another Total War game? I mean.. we could definitely be hyped for a month or two AFTER release, but for the release day, I’m not so sure.
Right now, the pre-alpha footage honestly doesn’t look that bad, when you consider that it’s pre-alpha, meaning, supposed to be a buggy mess. With that aside, Total War: Warhammer (why not just call it Total Warhammer?) looks like it has a lot of potential to deliver a great branch away from the historical TW style. Caesar definitely didn’t have griffins in his army, and Attila did not have flying Mongolians.
It’s definitely not going to be like other Warhammer games, the same as it’s going to be a lot different from your conventional Total War game. Sure, the battles share the same basic idea as Total War, but with the implementation of both flying units, and battle-changing magic, it’s going to feel like a massive step away from catapults and swords.
While we’re talking about magic, it’s mentioned by the developer that magic isn’t mean to be a primary part of the battles, and it’s more of a support tool for “when you need it most”. The attacks which are shown, look pretty impressive, so it’s safe to say that the introduction of magic is definitely “game changing”.
All-in-all, if you’re a fan of the Total War series, or of Warhammer, you should definitely keep an eye on the development of Total War: Warhammer. There is no official set release date yet, but it’s definitely coming out sometime in 2016.
What are your thoughts? Is Total War: Warhammer something you’re going to be playing? Why not? Let us know in the comments!
