What Is a 240 Hz Monitor?

240 hz monitors are monitors that have a 240 refresh rate. This means that they are capable of displaying 240 images per second, which is extremely fast and makes for a very smooth gaming experience if your machine is powerful enough to keep up. These kinds of monitors are made specifically with gaming in mind as that is the only activity that would require a refresh rate so high.

Multiplayer gaming is very competitive and if you want to compete then you need to make sure you have the best equipment you can get. Because acquiring a 240 refresh rate monitor is so prohibitively expensive these kinds of monitors are usually reserved for professional gamers and others that have a career in gaming.

Ports / Connectivity

HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI, VGA

The Agon AG271FZ2 from AOC is a very convenient monitor. It is a 27-inch LED monitor with a TN panel. What I mean by saying this monitor is convenient is that it has a lot of features that make it very convenient to use. It has a very ergonomic stand that allows you to tilt, swivel, or pivot the screen into any position you want or need, it has a very convenient, small keypad for quickly adjusting the screen settings, and it even includes a USB hub and headphone stand.

I found the headphone stand especially convenient as I often hang my headset off the corner of my monitor and it has a tendency to fall off if the desk is knocked into which I am always concerned will cause damage to the expensive equipment I keep on my desk.

These qualities don’t even take into consideration that it has an extremely fast response time and a refresh rate as high as all of the other options on this list. It is definitely an incredible piece of equipment that it should be easy to find a place for no matter what you have in your setup.

Pros

  • Comes with Many Convenience Features
  • Extremely Rapid Response Time
  • Visual Controls are Easy to Use
  • Many Available Connectivity Options

Cons

  • The speakers could be better

Conclusion:

Advantages of 240Hz Monitors

The primary advantage of a 240 hz gaming monitor is that it can support games of any framerate comfortably and keep your gaming experience extremely smooth and visually pleasing. Not only does this make your games prettier and more pleasing to the eye, but it also ensures that you have a competitive edge when playing against other people online because most other players won’t be able to see and analyze the game with as much detail as you can.

If you don’t have a machine powerful enough to match the 240 Hz refresh rate of the monitor that does not necessarily mean you shouldn’t pick one up. Having the best 240Hz monitor means you won’t have to worry about upgrading your monitor again for years to come.

What to Consider Before Buying a 240Hz Monitor

The most important point of consideration when purchasing such a powerful monitor is that you need an equally powerful machine to get the full potential out of the monitor. You must also consider what kind of games you are playing and whether they will benefit from a refresh rate that high.

The refresh rate of your monitor is intrinsically linked with the framerate you run your games at. In an ideal world, you would have your refresh rate and framerate be exactly the same and locked together. This is because any disparity between the two can result in graphical artifacts like tearing and stuttering.

Some games are locked at 60 frames per second or even 30, which means there isn’t much reason to have a refresh rate higher than 60 for those games. If you only play games like this then you might be better off saving yourself some money and purchasing a monitor with a lower refresh rate.

The Best Settings for a 240Hz Monitor

The most important thing to remember when setting up a 240 Hz monitor is to ensure that you set your desktop’s resolution in your control panel to 240 Hz. If you forget to do this then you will be locked to using the default setting which is usually 60 Hz and not using your monitor to its full potential.

You also might want to consider lowering the graphical intensity of any games you play to increase the framerate you play them at and get it closer to the refresh rate of your monitor. The closer they are the smoother your game will look.

Is a 240Hz Monitor Worth It for Competitive Gamers?

The short answer is, yes. Responsiveness and detailed vision are imperative to ensuring that you are competitive with other players. When you need to make snap decisions and react quickly to your changing environment, having more information is key. Having equipment that can react as fast as you can ensures that you are playing to your fullest potential and aids you in eking out that little bit more performance you need to defeat your enemies.
